How to build an email list as a BCBA or licensed clinician

Published April 9, 2026

If you’re selling CEUs without an email list, you’re building on rented land. Social algorithms change. An email list is yours. It’s the most reliable way to tell your audience “I have a new thing” and know they’ll see it. You don’t need a big list. You need an engaged one.

How do I start from scratch?

Offer something useful in exchange for an email: a checklist, mini-guide, sample quiz. Put the signup form everywhere. Start before you feel ready.

What should I email?

Useful content, delivered consistently. Weekly or biweekly. Share what you’d tell a colleague over lunch. The bar is “would I open this?”

How many subscribers before I sell?

Any size. I’ve seen first sales from lists under 50. A warm email list outperforms a large social following.

What platform?

Whatever you’ll actually use. Mailchimp, ConvertKit, Substack — all work. Platform matters less than consistency.

How does email connect to CEU sales?

Launch a CEU, email your list. They know you, trust you, need CEUs. Shortest path to a sale. Social is discovery. Email is conversion.

Start your list before you need it. The worst time to build an audience is launch day.

About CEU Lab Certs

I'm an Org ACE Provider who spent years manually creating CEU certificates and stitching together clunky systems that weren't built for the BACB's changing requirements. I built CEU Lab Certs to be the tool I wished existed — BACB-compliant templates, shareable quiz links, automated certificate delivery, and audit-ready records in one place, so you can spend your time teaching instead of doing certificate admin on a Sunday.
