The complete guide to CEUs and PDUs for ABA clinic owners

Published April 9, 2026

ABA clinic owners sit at a unique intersection: responsible for their own CEUs, their staff’s PDUs, and increasingly the opportunity to offer CEUs externally. Most clinics do at least one of these manually, costing more time than they realize.

Should my clinic become an ACE provider?

If you’re already training staff, becoming an ACE provider formalizes it with proper documentation and opens external revenue. See the ACE Provider Handbook.

Managing both CEUs and PDUs?

Use a platform with both templates. Same content, same quiz, two certificate types. Each staff member takes the version matching their credential.

Can internal training count?

Yes, if you’re an ACE provider and it meets BACB requirements. The gap is usually documentation, not content.

How to track compliance for all staff?

Centralized recordkeeping. Every certificate searchable by person, course, and date. One employee departure shouldn’t take the records with them.

CEUs for retention?

Free or subsidized CEUs are one of the highest-value, lowest-cost perks. Staff earn their CE through you instead of elsewhere. Retention strategy that’s also a quality strategy.

Should we offer externally?

If you have broadly valuable content, yes. Builds reputation, creates revenue, attracts talent. A branded CEU store gives you a professional presence for external learners.

The most mature ABA clinics treat CE as infrastructure, not an afterthought. One system for CEUs and PDUs, internal training for retention, and external courses for revenue and brand.

About CEU Lab Certs

I'm an Org ACE Provider who spent years manually creating CEU certificates and stitching together clunky systems that weren't built for the BACB's changing requirements. I built CEU Lab Certs to be the tool I wished existed — BACB-compliant templates, shareable quiz links, automated certificate delivery, and audit-ready records in one place, so you can spend your time teaching instead of doing certificate admin on a Sunday.
